Boat Lift Canopy Maintenance

Your boat lift replacement canopy is more than just shade—it’s a protective cover that shields your investment from sun, water, and weather for years to come. With just a few smart maintenance habits, you can keep your canopy looking sharp and performing strong season after season. Below are our top‑recommended care tips to help you maximize lifespan and keep your lift canopy in top form.

1. Prevent Standing Water.

Don’t allow water to pool or linger on your canopy. Stagnant water combined with debris can lead to discoloration and material fatigue over time so it is important to quickly remove water from the top of your canopy.

2. Promptly Remove any Tree Sap, Battery Acid, Etc.

Tree sap, bird droppings, and battery acid are all potential culprits of damage. If you notice sap or chemical spills, clean the area as soon as possible to protect the fabric and coating.

3. DO NOT use chemicals or abrasives to clean the canopy.

We recommend the use of a soft dish soap and pressurized water for best results. Use caution with any type of cleaning solution, as some may cause a negative chemical reaction with the vinyl coating which can cause premature degradation and discoloration of your canopy.

4. Remove the Canopy during the winter months.

It is important to take the canopy down for the off‑season as the freeze/thaw cycle and heavy snow loads can stress the fabric and seams. This is especially important if you live in an area that has a heavy snow fall.

5. Remove the Canopy when taking the boat lift out of the water.

If you remove your boat lift for any reason (i.e.: winter storage or repair) or if the boat is out of the water for any extended period of time it is important to remove the canopy. Failure to do so could result in wind damage to the canopy, boat lift, dock and surrounding area.

6. Fold and store canopy ONLY when completely dry.

Wet or damp vinyl will discolor. Store in a warm, dry location will extend the life of your canopy.

CAUTION: Stretching and removing bungee cords requires strength and proper balance. DO NOT let go of bungee cords when under tension; an eye injury or other bodily injury could occur. ALWAYS wear safety glasses and the proper protective clothing.
